Nas has taken to Instagram today to officially announce his long-awaited album, The Lost Tapes II. The announcement comes in the form of a video of Nasir in the lab, holding a casette tape with the album title on it.

The project will serve as the sequel to the original 2002 release, lauded as one of the rapper’s most acclaimed installments. It featured tracks that didn’t make the cut from the production of Nas’ 1999 album entitled I Am… as well as his 2001 album Stillmatic.

Back in 2011, Nas explained the reason behind shelving The Lost Tapes II was because of his new home at Def Jam. “When I released Lost Tapes, it was on Sony. Being at Sony for so long, I was used to things going easy,” he explained. “At Def Jam, I just got there, I’m still in my ways at Sony… Def Jam, it was more, ‘Let’s sit down, let’s have tea and talk this over.’ I wasn’t so used to that, and I saw kinda things falling behind. It kinda messed up my flow, I thought. The timing for that is gone.”

There is still no word on the official release of the album or if the cassette sculpture will roll out as an open edition for art enthusiasts. Stay tuned for more details on both and get a closer look at the sculpture below.
