Billie Eilish has shared her objections to Nylon Germany’s “Digital Prodogies” cover image, which stars a bald and shirtless CGI avatar of the 17-year-old singer.
The breakout singer-songwriter was equally irritated with the “shirtless” aspect of the cover, taking issue with it due to her not consenting to the creative direction and especially due to the fact that she is currently underage. You can read her full comments below:
What the f*ck is this sh*t.
- i was never approached by nylon about this piece whatsoever. i did not know it was happening nor did anyone on my team.
2. this is not even a real picture of me. i had absolutely no creative input.
3. youre gonna make a picture of me shirtless?? thats not real?? at 17? and make it the cover???? even if the picture was supposed to look like some robot version of me … i did not consent in any way.
4. ANNNDDD YOU’RE GONNA REMOVE ALL MY F*CKIN HAIR? booooooooooo to you.
According to Dazed Digital, The German publication updated the caption for the Instagram post with the following text, before deleting the post altogether.
- For this cover, it was never our intention to create a look that is confusing or insulting to Billie Eilish. It was only ever our intention to honor Billie’s impact and her work by creating this avatar which is part of a cover series highlighting the power of digital prodigy artists. This avatar is a piece of 3D artwork created in dedication to her achievements and the positive effect she has had on millions around the globe — including us.
Eilish recently made history as the youngest woman to hit the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts since a then-16-year-old Demi Lovato debuted “Here We Go Again” in 2009. She’s also one of more than 100 artists to join Planned Parenthood’s “Bans Off My Body” campaign. she was also awarded Best New Artist at the 2019 VMAs. See the full list of winners here.
