In this new entry in our ‘Diamonds In The Rough’ category, we want to introduce you to upcoming artist Naman and his brand new single titled “Animal”.
Newcomer rap artist Naman debuts his first music video to his recent single, “Animal.” He consistently delivers on his strength and depth as a writer, while effortlessly showcasing his ability to create clarity and presence on the mic. As a student of Harvard, he has a penchant for working in vast aural landscapes, using lyrics to evoke the visual experience of cinema. The film captures moments of his recent trip to Tulum, Mexico for a project with his team at Nonresident, all while roaming the street of Tulum with a leopard-print kimono. These drops are leading to his anticipated mixtape releasing September 2020.
The rapper from Boston creates sound that derives from the feeling of Hip-Hop and the precision of South Asian classical music. He simultaneously tests the boundaries of popular style, while still being committed to the avant-garde, thus creating new yet familiar rhythms and visuals for his audience.
His work on the track “Break Bread” was recently featured by Ebro Darden of Hot 97 on his Apple Music Beats1 radio show and Monday Motivation playlist, as well as a top performing Spotify editorial playlist, Beast Meets West . Naman most recently performed live at New York’s legendary venue, Terminal 5, for a crowd of over 2,000 people and has kept up a few performances at livestream concerts during the pandemic.
